I've known Caleb Hornbeck for over four years, and in that time, he has consistently impressed me. As an IT professional, Caleb is very knowledgeable and actively seeks to enhance and develop his knowledge and expertise both in his field and out of it, becoming a true interdisciplinary professional. In our time over the years, I have seen him expertly discuss his projects related to integrating AI into his professional workflows, wiring his house for solar energy, developing startup business ideas, or setting up a HAM radio station. As a father of five children, he's had to stay nimble in their care and deal with problems as they arise. Caring for small children is no picnic, but this is another area where Caleb has shown he's unflappable; he effectively cares for these kids while balancing those pressures with his professional work. This and other experiences speak to his problem-solving ability and hard-work ethic, showcasing his commitment to what he needs to do and his effectiveness in doing so. Caleb consistently is looking to go the extra mile, and I have been the beneficiary of that. During a recent electrical issue I had with a machine I was working on, Caleb learned about it and counseled me on the proper way to go about the fix, he offered to drop by with his tools and help out too. Caleb is the kind of person who not only has the skills and expertise but also the willingness to lend a hand and share what he knows to help others succeed. Caleb is a pleasure to work with. He has been a huge help on our emergency communications project. His technical skills and forward-thinking approach were essential in successfully migrating our legacy system to a modern environment. Caleb not only met every challenge with expertise but also introduced impressive innovations that significantly enhanced the final product. Caleb's work on redefining our system's database was particularly impressive. He skillfully navigated and identified database normalization issues that were causing problems, and architected a more stable and efficient data model from the ground up. His attention to detail in this area has created a more robust and scalable foundation for the entire application. He also implemented a robust Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) system that has greatly improved our security posture and simplified administrative overhead. Beyond the core migration, Caleb took the initiative to develop a state-of-the-art emergency exercise application. It is with much pleasure that I write this letter of reference for Caleb Hornbeck. He has been a student in many of my classes at Lower Columbia College. He is a pleasure to work with. Seldom have I had such a dedicated student. Caleb works hard; he is a serious and keen student. He is a quiet learner; however, he does participate in classroom discussions and asks difficult and thoughtful questions in class. Caleb completes his assignments ahead of time and always attends class. He has a busy life, work, family and school. I have been impressed with his time management and dedication to all facets of his life. I cannot remember Caleb missing a single class in the past two years. In fact, I cannot even remember that he was ever late for a class. He gets along well with his fellow students and in fact is a source of information for them. Caleb is able to explain and help them as they do their homework. He is one of the most intelligent and motivated individuals I have ever met. He has that rare combination of excellent technical skills coupled with wonderful "people skills". In addition, he is forthright and honest. I have observed Caleb as he works in my computer lab; he is reliable, resourceful and has a very proactive approach to problem solving. He communicates well and to repeat myself, has the ability to get-along with the very diverse population of people at Lower Columbia College. Caleb has impressed me with his willingness to help his fellow students and his instructor. He has a knack for clarifying complex material and assisting me as I attempt to make the material clear for others. I shall miss him and wish him all the best in whatever he plans for his future. I have been involved with Caleb during his entire sojourn through the Boy Scouting program both as an advisor and a leader. I have found him always willing and eager to go the extra mile in making sure he did more than was required for his advancement. He was and is a great example to his peers and to the younger scouts. After earning his Eagle rank, he continued to earn more merit badges - 21 are required for Eagle - and has about 100. He exemplifies the scout oath and law and exudes scout spirit in all his activities. I therefore wholeheartedly recommend him without reservation.

I first asked Caleb to assist me in 2008, and his performance has justified my high expectations. Not only is he intelligent and creative, but I have appreciated his desire to serve others, and his eagerness to help and stick to it, even when it means dirty, uninspiring "grunt work" instead of tasks more appealing to his intellect. I was particularly glad to have found Caleb in 2012, when my daughter stopped breathing and I had to run out without warning during a major A/V event, dropping the full load of production and takedown management squarely in Caleb's lap while I spent the weekend at the hospital. No problem! Caleb had things handled. This boy has great potential.
